A Mindful Pause to Change Your Day

Need a moment of calm in your day for stress relief?

Try a mindful pause for 30 seconds to tune into your body.

When you need a moment to quiet your mind and you are short on time, try a mindful pause. A thirty second time-out can help in times of stress and anxiety. When you have less than a minute, breathing exercises are usually recommended. Deep breathing techniques help to lower stress in the body, activating the parasympathetic nervous system which decreases heart rate and dilates blood vessels, signaling the body to slow down. There are many brief breathing strategies, for example, the technique of breathing in for four seconds, breathing out for six seconds, repeated three times. The Calm Breathe Bubble provides a structured thirty second breathing exercise, if you don't have time to use the app. Another useful exercise is to listen to oceans sounds, which have long been used in meditation and to create a soothing atmosphere. The rhythm of ocean waves and the movement of the tide encourages a more peaceful pace of thought. Try incorporating forms of mindfulness into your daily life to help reduce the impact of stress.
